Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kansas

Credit card co. sold debt and attorney now threatens a judgement

-

I owe $19,000 unsecured dollars to a finance company who has sold the debt and now an attorney from California is threatening a judgement if not paid-in-full within 30days.

What happens eventually if nothing done on my part, or is

a bankruptcy lawyer more suitable?

Not much info, but I need to know which direction to take.

Thank You

Ask the attorney for their Kansas Bar number. If they have none, or will not tell you, call the Kansas Bar Association and make a report.

As to the debt. There can be no Judgment without a suit being filed. Pf you tuly owe teh debt, than that is a small obstacle, and one which you would do better to avoid. Your debt is large enough that it may be profitable to hire an attorney to negotiate a settlement or payment arrangement for you.

Bankruptcy is an option. So is suing the California attorney for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). From what you report, that California "attorney" may have violated the Act, and made himself liable to you.

You should consult directly with an attorney in your area that you trust.

Good Luck
