Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kansas
I hired an attorney back in 08 for a custody issue. My ex-husband was abusing my daughter. The lawyer sent it to court services and he done nothing but send me copies of the same letters that court services sent. (later I found out I didnt have to hirer him that I could of called them myself he did not tell me that part) He also would include a letter w the copy to " advise" me to read this letter carefully and that he knew they already sent me one. This is all he really done. He did help me w a Hospital bill that was my ex-husbands but our divorce papers say that we are responsible for our own bills such as hospital bills. Other than that he has done nothing. I had paid him the 500.00 retainer fee that he asked for.My lawyer had also send a letter to me that he had sent to my ex husband to get copies of insurance cards for my daughter and the letter states that if my ex didnt sent them in w in 7 days that he was going to file a motion to charge him for all the attorney fees. Court services had to close the case due to my ex husband not paying the 40.00 fee to them, but they was going to set supervised visitations but it never went through. So the case was closed in Feb. 2009 . After this I havent heard anything from this lawyer untill recently. Now all of a sudden he is charging 910.00. For what I do not know havent gotten a itemized bill. He had set a court date on June 20, 2010 and I showed but he did not. So it was moved to Monday July 18 2010. I have tried to talk to him about this and told him of the letter he sent but he just denies it and threatens he will charge me with all of this other stuff and take it to trial ect. What can I do. I can not afford to hire another attorney. Im also scared the same thing will happen w another one. Thanks

You may need to have the Kansas Bar Association negotiate teh dispute between you and this attonrey . If he represnete dyou on the hoispital bill and monitorie dthe situatioj with Court servcies, if apepar s they may have earned the $500 you sent. They do, however, have to explain what work the $910 bill comes from. You can ask for that as part of your dicovery in the case.
Good luck
