Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kansas

My husband & I were seperated for 2 years. I lost my job, and i had a credit card that has not been paid on for 2 years. I now have a judgement date to go to court. I have been looking for a job with NO luck. I have the lawyer that is collecting for the card that. My husband says that he doesn't feel responsible for this since we were split up. What do I do now, and what can happen? thankis for your help.

The credit card company is nto really affected by your seperation. If you wre both on the card, they may go after either or both of you. If he was not on the cared, they probably cannot obtain a valid judgment against him.

If you beleive you do nto owe what they allege, then deny the claim at the answer docket and file a proper and timely Answer that denies the claims too. Teh Credtior's attorney will likley sned you Discovery requests. You will have to respond to thios properly and timel;y also. You may send Discovery Requests to them. Perhaps they do not have adequate documentation to prove thier case. The attonrey may also offer you a payment arrangment or a lump sum settlment offer.

If you do not know how to respond to the Petition, Discovery or at the Answer docket, then you should conult direclty with an attorney who can go over the specific facts of your case with you. If you cannot afford to hire them to represent you in court, perhaps they can assist you in preparing your Pro Se pleadings and other documents..

Good luck
