Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kansas

I loaned $850 to someone and this person wrote me a check as repayment and I cashed the check and it was not honored by the bank. What should be my next option to obtain my payment?

You have two basic options that might not exclude each other. You can take the dishonored check to the district attorney to see if they will pursue the drafter on a criminal charge. You can sure the drafter, in civil Court, on the loan debt, and for statutory damages on the dishonored check. If you choose the second option, you should at least hire an attorney to draft your Pro Se pleadings, if not to represent you in the case.
