non-payment of money

I am in Califormia have been dealing with an auction house for the sale of consignment items in Kansas. I was to be paid for items sold within six months. I am owed money from one and one-half years ago. I am owed approximately $16,000. I have been trying to collect this money, but am not getting anywhere. What can I do to get paid? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Re: non-payment of money

Is the auction house in California or in Kansas? If it is here in California, then you should hire a California lawyer for help; if necessary, you may have to sue to get your money back. If the auctioneer is in Kansas, you may have to hire a Kansas lawyer. I'm a California lawyer; feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further.

Re: non-payment of money

You have to sue the auction house. If they are based in KS, you should retain a KS attorney. If they are based in CA, you should retain a CA attorney. However, it is not clear from your post where they are. For these purposes, they may be a California business or licensed by the Secretary of State which may allow you to sue them in CA. You can check by going to www.ss.ca.gov and clicking on Business Portal.
