Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Kansas
I owe money to a pay day loan business. They have posted my name and names of others who owe money on a neon sign outside their business for passersby to read. Is this type of embarassment legal in Kansas? Anywhere?

If what they say is "John Doe owes us money", and John Doe does owe them money, then there appears to be no tortious claim that John Doe can bring against them. But, the sign may violate local ordiances and or state signage laws. If John Doe doesn't owe the money to them, then
John Doe may have many different claims to make against the loan business. This can be where, the actual lender is a different, but often related, corporation from the pay day loan company. If one is reproting or collecting debts on behalf of another, they are subject to both state and federal consumer and fair debt reporting/collecting legislation.
If the sign says "John Doe is dead beat" then there may be claims that John Doe can make regardless of whether he owes the money, and to whom.
Good luck
