Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kansas

Hi, I am charged with the shoplifting case when I was shopping at Gordmans store. I bought $94 worth of items and didnt pay for 26 dollar worth of item and caught while leaving the store . So I Was asked to be present in the court next month. What will be the chances of being me sent to jail as this is my first charge ever in my life and I m 24 years old. Do I need a lawyer for this ? Will that be helpful? How long it will be in my record? What can I do to remove it from my record ? Will I be sent to jail ?

If this is yrou first offense, it is very unlikely that you will be sent to jail. If you hire cousel to represnt you, it apepar sto be more likley that you could avoid a conviciton at all. If you go for years without any new charges, you can seek to ahv the arrest or conviciton expunged. This may nto prevent all internet seraches in the future, but will lessen the likelihood that any ony will find the official record.
