Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kansas
I have a court date tomorrow for a petty theft misdemeanor but when I went to talk to the prosecutor they have no files regarding my case. I want to exercise my right to an attorney but I'm not sure how to ask for a court appointed one.

If you opt not to hire an attorney, you can request that teh court appoint one at your court date tomorrow. If you are indigigent,a nd the possible penalty is enough, they may appoiint one for you. It is more likley that they will have you apply (complete the financial forms) with the public defender's office.
Good luck
