Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kansas
I am involved in a domestic violence case. I was the victim but didnt want to press charges so the state is this happened in Dec i missed the first court and was sent paper work to show to the next court will i get in trouble if i dont go to the following court? I am considered a witness in this case. The person being accused of the crime is an illegal and i really do not want him to get deported what can i do?

If you are ordered to go to court, you may be the subject of a bench arrest warrant, if you fail to show. It is true that a convictionfor domestic violence may get an immigrant's visa cancelled. But, for illegals, it does not matter if they are convicted. Just getting arrested would probably be enough for deportation. There is no extra punishment foir a conviction. It seems you are either afraid of the defendnat, or do not want to cause them undue inconvenience. Keep in mind that you may go to jail for tryig to avoid being part of their comviction. If you fail to show, and the court does not issue a warrant fr your arrest, they maqy assume you were intimidated by the defendant and no showed out of fear. Given that, they may assume taqt what was originally reported to the police was true, and convict the defendant without you.
Good luck
