Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kansas
Juvenile Criminal Act
My son (juvenile) was arrested for Stealing gift cards.... He 1st used the register at his work place to put $425 dollars on a gift card and used it to buy things at the store, then a few weeks later he used the register at his work place to put $1425 dollars on gift cards but didn't use them or leave the store with them they were just in his pocket while working, can he still be charged for the $1425 even though he didn't leave the store with them. he was caught for the previous card of $425 that day of putting $1425 on the cards and was taken in the back to talk about that then they asked if he had done anymore( they didn't know about the $1425) and he confessed and gave up the cards and told the truth. then they called the cops and they wrote down he was charged for close to $2000 He hasn't been to court or anything yet but he is guilty of the $425 but can he still be convicted/charged for the $1425 since he didn't leave the store or use them?

Re: Juvenile Criminal Act
Your son needs a competent attorney. He may be charged with a felony. You siad he was ajuvenile, but you did not say how old he was. The outcome of this case could have negative effect on the rest of his life.
As to the second card issue. Imagine if your son had a credit card, and he credited $1425 to his card and put it in his pocket, and was stopped before he left the building. This is not cash,so he did nto take physical property belonging to the store, but he has denied the store access to a protion of their assets. They cannot make use of that money, and they have new potential obligation to provide $1425 worht of merchandise to the holder of that card. In this case, the second card is more in the neighborhood of felonious fraud, then in robbery. The first card is a matter of fraud and robbery.
Your son may have defense to a robbery charge as to the secodn card, but is vulnerable to a charge of larceny and fraud as to it.
Good Luck
