Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kansas
Minor in consumotion
My 18 year old son got an MIC and eluding and disobeying a police officer. He has a court date, do we need to get a lawyer? A policeman told us he could just show up for court and the judge will probably reduce his fine and give him community service.

U may wish to contact counsel in your jurisdiction prior to going for the court date. Often prosecutors have 'diversionary' proposals for first time offenders which might be helpful to enable your son to protect his criminal history. If you don't wish to obtain your own legal counsel, u might try contacting the prosecutor's office to ascertain whether such a progam is available to your son.
