Question involving a legal term and its definition
If an individual receives diversion as punishment for an offense, does that mean they were convicted of the offense? Does it mean they plead guilty to it?

That would depend upon whether the individual successfully complied with the terms of the diversion agreement. In most agreements, the defendant stipulates to the facts of the incident charged, and therefore, if defendant does not comply with the requirements in the agreement, the state can revoke the diversion, thereby causing the defendant to be convicted of the original charge.
