Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kansas

I was in another town with a few other people. We ordered drinks and dinner at a restraunt. The waiteress served us a pitcher of beer.. after we drank it she rechecked our ids and discovered two of us are under age and she called the police. We ran out on the bill but a friend went in later and paid that bill. I talked to a officer over the phone and told him what happened. he wanted me to come back to that state and give them a statement but i already gave details over the phone. Should i go back to that state and what will happen if I do or if I dont?

Based upon your descrition, it sounds like you were not even in Kansas when this occurred. Therefore, I can only give you very general information. If you provided a truthful description to the police, you have already done more than the US Constitution would allow the State to force you to do. You have not been charged with a crime yet, right? Therefore, it would probably not be in your interests to go back and subject yourself to the jurisdiction of that Court.

Unless the police were able to get an arrest warrant, the older this matter gets the less likely the prosecutor will want to pursue it. You might hire an attorney admitted in the state where it happened to see if you have an outstanding warrant. It shouldn't cost you much to find out. You might even be able to do it yourself online.

Good luck, and wait til your 21
