Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

I'll keep this brief. My 14 year old son lives in Las Vegas with his mother and I reside in Kansas. For the last 3-4 years his grades have slipped lower and lower. He's now only attending school 1 day a week (some online school she put him in), he's flunking and he's home alone most of the time. She typically takes 1-2 weeks to call me back when I try to reach them. I pay her child support every month. It's a critical point of his life and I'd like to pursue custody. I have an extensive family surrounding me to help get him back on course and a very stable job and home life. What would my first step be?

First, we must determine the proper jurisdiction for initiating an action to change residential custody. If jurisdiction is proper in Kansas, we would gather evidence to support your position that your son should live with you. A professional evaluation may also be conducted. If the judge determines it is in the best interest of your son to live primarily with you, then a change would be made. Contact an experienced family law attorney. We are here to help.
