Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas
help please
i am 16 years old. My dad is abusive. i have not seen
my mom in three years. I have a step mom but she has
never been able to adopt me. My father has told me
that he does not my sister and I. my mom left me at my
grandmas on one of her visitations. i turned my dad in
for abuse. nothing really came out of it. thing have
gotten worse at home mentally. is there legal way my
step mom can adopt us or become our legal guardian i
really need help.

How would adoption my step-mother help? Doesn't she live with your abusive father? Is she separated from him or is she about to obtain a divorce? Assuming she lives apart from your father and wants to adopt you. A third party(i.e. your step mother)may adopt you only if your father consented or his parental rights were terminated. If your father is sexually abusive, then you need to see the police. If he is mentally abusive, please go see a teacher, a church leader, or a high school counselor. Perhaps they can advise you on how to handle the situation.

Is there a school counselor...teacher or principal with whom you can talk? How about the pastor at church? Any one of those people can assist you with getting help; please don't be afraid to ask them right away.
