Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas
adoption
I am remarried and my ex-husband wants to give up his rights to our three children. My new husband is very willing to adopt them. What are the steps to take to do this and will he be made to know that he is severing ALL his rights to these kids? Also his parents are still close to my children can I have it made so that when they visit them he cannot be there? Thank You Very Much

Re: adoption
If your ex is willing, he will have to be given notice of the termination hearing and will also need to consent. If your ex objects it will be hard to get an order of termination unless he has abandoned them - which is determined if he failed to pay child support, or has not seen the children.
You can retain formal grandparent rights for his parents. It will be hard to get an order for him not to see the kids at grandma's unless he is a "bad" man - i.e., druggie, criminal, abuser, etc.
