Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Bankruptcy

Divorce decreee states I was responsible for marital debt between 8/95-12/00. Was contacted by 5 agencies. TOld them of the decree and told them I would pay if they proved the debt occurred between those dates. 2 sent me statements and I paid them. In 1/03 my ex calls and tells me she filed (without telling me first) for $40,000 in bankruptcy and I may have creditors calling me. They never did. In 2006, now that she is mad about something else, she has 6 motions filed against me. One of them is that I need to pay her $200 bankruptcy filing fee because I caused this by not paying the marital debt. I told her that I was never notified of any further debt and assumed it was done. Am I going to have to pay that?

Re: Bankruptcy

Good question. My first reaction would be no. But, in order to know for sure you would need to review the decree or any property settlement agreement.
