Is bigamy punishable if unknown that you were common law married

If you had not been adjudicated as being common law married, your subsequent marriage certificate would make it difficult for bigamy to be proved. But. If they can, it can be punished by jail time. However, I am unaware of anyone being jailed based upon a prior unadjudicated common law marriage. If you're concerned, you should consult directly with a family or criminal law attorney in your area.
