Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

My boyfriends daughter is 7 years old, her birth mom left when she was 16 months old, and then she came back when she was 5 years old for about 8 months, and has been absent again for over 2 years. My boyfriend and I are not married, so I don't know if that would put a damper on my chances of adopting her? How would I go about adopting her?

If you aren't married to a parent, you may have to have both of their parental rights terminated in ordee to adopt this child.
