Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Changing my child's last name.

My 10 year old daughter and I live together. My ex has visitation but lives out of state and only sees her once every 2 or 3 months. I changed my name back to my maiden name and she feels disconnected from me. I know my ex would never agree to allow her to change her name. Can she hyphenate my last name on to her last name? Would this have to be done legally and would we need his permission. Could she possibly change her middle name to my last name without his permission?

Thanks.

Re: Changing my child's last name.

Aren't you and 'ex' able to converse w/each other about the needs of your child? Have u attempted to discuss this problem w/him? Perhaps your daughter may be able to explain her feeling to him. . .I assume you have joint custody of your child, which means that you will converse with each other about major decisions, such as this. Have you spoken w/a school counselor or therapist about what your child is experiencing? I suggest you begin by investigating thru professionals just what it is that is the basis for your child's concern.
