Great question! The quick answer is that a child does not get to to choose the place to live because, by definition, he or she is a minor, and does not have the legal ability to make such decisions. However, when a minor demonstrates sufficient intellect and maturity, the courts will generally allow the child some input as to where he or she wants to reside. An experienced family law attorney knows several ways to maximize the minor's input. Consult an experienced family law attorney in your area.
