Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Who gets to claim the exemption?

My divorce papers say my ex and I will alternate years claiming my daughter on our tax exemptions with me taking the odd numbered years and him taking the even numbered years. Does this mean i get to claim her since its for the 2007 tax season, or does he get to claim her since it is 2008?

Re: Who gets to claim the exemption?

The language refers to the calendar tax year, not the year in which the return is filed. 2007 is an odd-numbered year. Disregard that the tax return will be filed in 2008.
