Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Conservitor or Financial Guardian

What process do you go thru to be made a conservitor or financial guardian of a minor child (my nephew), when parents are divorced and one parent dies (my brother), who left very large life insurance policies. Ex-wife cannot manage money. Always in jail for insufficient funds. We want to make sure the money is still there when said child is out of school and wants to go to college. No will, of course. any information would be greatly appreciated. Or even just pushing me in the right direction for obtaining information.

Re: Conservitor or Financial Guardian

There is a process for setting up a Fiduciary situation for a minor who has come into money. However, most relatives who try to do it pro se screw it up. Look for a Probate or "Estate planning" attorney in your area. They can give you more thorough advice after hearing more of the facts.

Good Luck
