What is the legal age for a child to choose which parent to live with?

In Kansas, there is no legal age when a child gets to choose his or her own place of residence. That decision belongs to the parents, or, in the event of legal dispute, it belongs to the judge. The judge will make that decision based on the best interests of the child. In many cases, the judge will request input from all parties, including the child, by ordering a Home Study or Child Custody Evaluation. In that way, the child may have some influence on his or her own living arrangements. As the child gets older, that information becomes more useful.
