Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Divorce vs. Abandonment??

I was married in May of 1998 and was left in October of 1999. I was told that after a certain period of time passed, it was considered abandonment if I had no knowledge of where my ''husband'' was. I know vaguely that he is in PA, and the reason for the split is due to him getting another woman pregnant. There are no children between us, no properties - and no connections other than being married.

I do not have the means to pay for a divorce - as well as the principle of the matter not being at fault. I have met and have been with someone now for nearly two years. We wish to get married.

My question is if this person gave me correct information in telling me that there is no legal process required for this situation. They were told it was to be treated like a ''missing person''. After a certain amount of time, you are free to remarry.

Thank you for your help in this matter.
