Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas
I am the father of a 17 year old girl in Missouri. Her great-aunt currently has guardianship because her mother lost custody years ago and I was not aware I was her father until last year when the aunt needed money and child support enforcement found me. She does not work and has been on welfare/disability for over 20 years. We are fighting for custody and the judge that has jurisdiction in the paternity case awarded me sole custody. Will this override the guardianship? We filedfor termination of guardianship because the great-aunt is unfit and admitted in court to buying her cigarettes and refusing her contact with me. She also let my daughter quit school without my knowledge or permission. The case is on hold right now until our lawyer comes back from maternity leave which is very upsetting. Do you think we will win?
1 Answer from Attorneys
If everything you stated here is true, you will probably prevail in your efoirt to terminate the guardianship. If the attorney is part of a firm, they should have someone else working in your case, rather than make you wait.
Good luck
