Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

Financial Responsibility of Vehicle

I was awarded a vehicle in my divorce, but my ex remained on the loan, title and registration. 2 years later, he took the vehicle from me and told me I was not ''responsible enough'' to have it and he was keeping it. Now he is selling the vehicle for much less than is owed and suing me for the deficiency and car payments he has made since. Will I be responsible to pay this to him since he was relieved of rights and responsibilities of the car in the divorce? Or will he be responsible for the debt because he frustrated the court order and took the vehicle from me? I was forced to purchase another vehicle in the meantime and cannot afford 2 car payments.

Re: Financial Responsibility of Vehicle

I sounds like there is much more to this story than appears in your narrative. A lawyer would need to see the Decree of Divorce to determine each party's responsibility. Your paragraph doesn't say whether you were current on the payments. Consult an experienced family law attorney.
