Adoption records can be released after one hundred years, in some cases. Many years back there was one hospital in St. Joseph Missouri, and most folks went to Bell Mermorial (Now KU Med Center) In Kansas City. You mgiht be able to view birth records for the hospitals, and thereby determine which baby was your Great-Grandmother. In Missouri the law treats adoptive parents as birth parents. So, the adoptive parents are the legal parents and their parents are the grandparents. Kansas views a slim seperation between birth and adoptive parents. Therefore, they allow adoptive children (and sometimes birth parents) to view the adoption records. I have heard of illegal means whereby Missouri Record Center staff will sometimes allow access to very old documents, as there is no one living who could bring a suit against them for disclosure. Bribing a public offcial or employee is illegal. it coudl get them fired and both of you arrested.
