If you and the child's father were not married, a paternity case is the answer. After that case is started, the court can make orders regarding child custody and child support. It is best to file sooner rather than later. If the State of Kansas has paid any benefits on behalf of the child, SRS may pursue reimbursement from the absent father. SRS will not participate in the development of a Parenting Plan. Consult an experienced family law attorney. We are here to help.
