Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

life insurance in a divorce

my late husband was divorced in 1982.at that time in the settlement papers it said that his children should be put on as beneficiaries for 75% of his life insurance. when he died in 2001 he only had me on as benecficiary. Should he have still had his children on the life insurance or does that go out of effect when they become adults. I was made the sole beneficiary. My question is are his adult children entitled to part of his life insurance?

Life insurance is like a contract between the insured and the insurance company. The company will pay to the person indicated as the beneficiary. However, in your case, the children may take this matter to court and sue for their share of the proceeds pursuant to the courts order. You may have to hire an attorney to protect you on this. And I would encourage you to do so.
