Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas
Parental consent in emergency situations.
A divorced father is concerned about medical emergency consent in the event his companion needs to rush a child to the doctor or emergency room. The mother of the children is deceased. He and his companion are not married.
Does he need a family member assigned as gardian or can the companion be assigned as such? What type of form/process is this called?

Re: Parental consent in emergency situations.
If father is the sole custodian of the child(ren), then he need sign a document called a health care power of attorney assigning whomever the right to access medical care for the child. He can restrict the consent to sole issues or give liberal consent. Any legal counsel would have access to such a document.
