My wife has power-of-attorney for her father, we were wondering if he should become hospitalized, are we legally responsible for his medical debts that are not covered by medicaid.

Re: Power of Attorney
Your wife, does not owe for the medical care or her father, just because she holds a Power Of Attorney. However, when she exercises that power, she should be very careful what she signs. She might be agreeing to pay for care, when she thinks she is just giving consent for care. When in doubt, do not sign. If the provider refuses to give care without her signature, then you need to read through the paperwork twice, or have a lawyer look it over.
Good Luck
