Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas
Pro-Bono work for Adoption
My Wife's Sister has abandoned her Children, One is a Boy and 7 months Old, the Other is a girl at 2 Years Old. Both of the Babies Fathers want nothing to do with them and on the Male, there is no father listed on the Birth Certificate. We would love to keep these children in the family, but have recently been notified that the out of state adoption fee for My Wife's Sister would be over $5000. She Currently lives in Chicago, IL and has only one Child.
The Mother of the Children is willing to sign over custody of both, but we want an adoption instead of just Guardianship as she is quite Flighty and could change her mind in the future. While an adoption can be overturned, we would want to make it as difficult as possible. We live in Kansas and want to adopt the Female Child and have noticed the fees are signifigantly less. We would like to lift the burden of the financials to help move forward in this situation.
Thank You!

Re: Pro-Bono work for Adoption
You are taking the proper approach by seeking legal assistance. . .contact an attorney in the area in which you reside. This is not an area in which to economize; if the sister-in-law is willing to permit u to adopt, there shouldn't be a great deal of legal fees.
