Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas
I want rights and/or custody
My ex-boyfriend and I broke off our relationship around 9/2005. Due to financesand work schedule I had, he took custody of our 1 1/2 year old daughter (at the time). We were living in NE but he moved to KS with our daughter. I pay child support, thru the state of KS but we were never married and never went to court over custody. He says I have no rights. I pick up my daughter once a month due to finances and it's usually over the weekend only. I have a hard time contacting him to even talk to my daughter. I would like to know how I can get rights, or some agreement or him to meet me halfway. I would like custody but we cannot agree on anything verbally and everytime we made a verbal agreement he changed his mind. He doesn't even tell me where he works, where her day care is and he never answers his phone. I was wondering if he is right and I don't have rights. I need to know how to get rights or custody.

Re: I want rights and/or custody
If you are paying child support through a state, then somewhere there is a court document awarding him custody. You will need to go to court to get that changed. Further, you do have rights to contact, information, etc, but you will need to take the father to court to enforce those rights. You could try to pursue legal action on your own, but you really would be best served by hiring an attorney.
