Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

I have supported my grand daughter and my daughter for two years now. I have always taken care of her. Now my daughter tells me she got married and is leaving in 4 days and taking my grand daughter with her. I have never met this person and she is moving out of state. Do I have any rights to try and keep my grand daughter.

You can file a Motion for grandparent visitation. With your daughter moving out of state, you may be responsible for your granddaughter's travel expenses. If she trusted you with her daughter, wouldn't your daughter want you to visit her?

If you feel that your daughter is not fit to parent, you can file a Petition to become your granddaughter's Custodian or Guardian. But, this will likely alienate your daughter, and cause her to oppose your being in her life anymore.

If you do not honestly feel that your daughter is a threat to her chikd, there is little legal recourse to her moving with the girl, even if you haven't met the Stepfather.

I suggest that you consult directly with a family law attorney, in your area, to get specific advice. With just the general information that you were able to provide here, I was only able to give you basic and general information. You need to go get advice specific to the particular facts of your situation.

Good luck
