Legal Question in Family Law in Kansas

There is a toddler that was left with the father's parents by the mother. The mother has not made contact w/the father or the father's parents. The mother's family has seen the toddler a couple of times in the 16 days. The mother's family has not offered info as to the mother's whereabouts. The father would like to have full custody of the toddler. Is there a time-frame in the state of Kansas that would have to be met for the mother to lose her parental rights?

Yes, but it may be as much as two years if the mother has no significant contact with the child. At this time, it appears more important to establish a Parenting Plan that specifies who is to have residential custody of the child and when. If the parents were never married, the father can file a paternity action to ask for residential custody. Consult an experienced family law attorney. We are here to help.
