Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Kansas

My ex and I owned a car together. Both names on the title separated by "or". He went to jail and the car was towed. I picked the car up from the tow lot and there were personal items from him and his girlfriend in the car. I had no way of contacting my ex so I proceeded to sell the car and get rid of the contents inside. They are now threating sue me for the discarded items. Can they do this?

Under the facts you described, yoru ex may be able to sue for the vlaue of the items you discarded. Whether his girlfeind can successfully sue, will depend upon the aragnemten fo rstoreage of her items between her and your ex. You probably already know that you owe yrou ex one half of the proceed so the sale minus whgat you had to pay to get the car out of the tow lot and ready for sale.

Good luck
