Re: how do you become a legal resident?

First, are you certain, or just guessing? If you are guessing, is it a pretty sure guess? If he or she is not willing to disclose to you, don't get your feelings hurt, okay. It is scary being in a country where at any moment you can be arrested and taken off somewhere and it's hard to reach your family. Best that you be a really good friend and simply hand them a piece of paper that says "Call this immigration attorney to help you." Depending on where you are, you can find immigration lawyers listed on the website for the American Immigration Lawyers Association. A lawyer need not be in your state to necessarily handle a case; for example, I do cases all over the country. It will depend on the expense and how difficult the case, okay. So, until we know, we don't know how difficult the case is. For example, if your friend entered the United States legally at some time in the past, and they are married to a U.S. citizen, that can be easily taken care of by filing petitions and getting an interview. On the other hand, if that is not the case, and the facts differ, then the case could still be able to work, or may be more difficult. So, like I said, be a good friend. Don't say anything, but pass that paper -- and try to understand that fear is a factor in driving people into themselves. I wish more Americans could understand. Good luck!

There are several ways, but we would need more facts to know what options they can try. Feel free to call; we don't change for the time if we can't help you.
