Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Kansas

I am 16 and my parents want to surrender their parental rights to the state(put me in foster care) or emancipate me... I have a family who is wanting to take me in/adopt me. If my parents don't approve, what would be the legal course of action to take in this situation... If I'm out into foster care, then I can be adopted by a non-foster care family? Also, if I am emancipated, am I still able to be adopted, or am I now on my own for good? Please help ASAP!!!

I am sorry to hear that you and your parents aren't getting along. Perhaps the other adults could petition to become your custodians. Or, your parents can grant them custody of you. When you are 17, you can move out of your parent's house without having to go through emancipation. This may be better for you, because you can seek that the Court make your parents contribute to your college expenses. You should consult directly with a civil or family law practice attorney, in your area. Or, you can contact me via email. If you do that, please refer to this LawGuru post, as you are anonymous at this point.

Good luck
