Company policy
I wanted to know how a company can legally make you pay for something that was stolen from a company vehicle issued to a person. The vehicle was locked and in a parking lot of the apartment where this person lived. He was made to sign a written warning with a 12 month probation period he felt he had no choice but to sign he was told he did not have to sign but would be terminated on the spot.He was told he should have taken the things out of his company truck and put them in his home but even if it had been stolen from his home he would still have to pay or his insurance would have to how fair is that to be responsible for insuring company property.He will now have a payroll deduction for a $7000 piece of equipment. His supervisor was not aware of this policy.Human Resources will be contacted by the supervisor today but should my friend contact a lawyer about this?What if HR doesn't help.This man has to worry every day he may be fired. I have so much more on this subject but this is the main thing without talking to someone in person.Please help us with this question. Thank you.

I suggest you contact the Kansas Department of Labor in Topeka. Unless the person agreed to the deduction, it is unlawful to withhold the money from the paycheck (in my opinion).
