Legal Question in Employment Law in Kansas

Wrongful Termination

I was terminated for reasons other than what I was told at time of termination. I have discovered that I was terminated due to rumors that either my wife or me had an affair outside or our marriage. I had a reference check company call my boss and he stated that I was terminated due to home life problems. Do I have any recoursde with this large corporation? Thank You

Re: Wrongful Termination

In Kansas, an employer has a great deal of latitude in firing employees. In general, it might not be illegal for an employer to fire you for off-duty "misconduct." However, there is an argument that this action is a violation of public policy and also violates your right to privacy. It also is possible that the employer is limited by terms of personnel policies that might not allow termination for off duty conduct. If you have an actual legal problem, you should consult a competent employment attorney for further advice. Michael Shultz; shultzemploymentlaw.com
