Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kansas

On August 4, 2015 I moved into an apartment with my sister and her fiance. I had to pay a $50 deposit to be added to the lease. The landlord said I was added, and when they moved out in November 2015, I stayed and agreed to continuing to pay the rent. Well I didnt have a copy of the lease to which I had been added, so I asked for a copy and the landlord always kept saying he would "get around to it". This happened for nearly 4 months then this month he claimed I had "abandoned" the property which I hadnt. I was late on $100 of rent out of $400. So the landlord began showing people my apartment and letting people go through with my stuff still there. As a result I lost a $400 laptop and the previous tenants my sister and her fiance lost a Dale Earnhardt blanket. Is there anything legally I can do? Then yesterday I came back to finish clearing out my stuff around 4PM and he had rented the apartment and literally thrown my stuff out into the yard. He only ever showed up to get rent and would never take care of the place, which was infested with roaches and falling apart. Is there anything i can legally do? I live in Kansas

It sounds like you may have a case against the landlord. You should consult directly with a civil practice attorney in your area. Take what paperwork that you have. You need specific advice as to the particular facts of your situation, rather than a general answer based upon your general description if the facts.

Good luck
