Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kansas

We were in a lease until 7/31/10. Our land lord lost the house in a foreclosure. The Bank now owns it. We have found another place to live and are moving into it on 8/13/2010. Do we really owe our landlord a half a months rent? He is holding a security deposit of 1525.00. Thank you for your prompt attention.

Your landlord is the bank or whomever bought the property at the foreclosure sale. You may owe nothing to your former landlord. You are owed the deposit, if there are no damages. It is uncertain if you coudl get that back for mteh bank or woudl have ot go after the old landlord. IT does appear that if you were there on AUgust 1, 2010, that you might owe the bank for the full months rent for August. If the bank sent you a notice to vacate, then you propbably owe nothing past the date they said to get out, providing you were out by then.

Good luck
