Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kansas
i moved into my step brothers home with him and his family. two or three months after i moved in, he and his wife split up. she left the home.shortly after she moved my step brother went to visit family and remained gone for about 2 months. in the meantime another of my brothers got very sick and he came to stay at my step brothers residence also. the landowner of the property came and informed us that altho my step brother was the leaseholder he had not paid rent or even contacted them with any explanation as to why.we informed landowner that step brother and wife had separated and she had moved out. we also informed landowner that we lived there as well. knowing that step brother had not been home for long period of time, landowner was ok with us living there as long as we agreed to take over lease and make the rent paycments.my brother who had moved in at later date who was sick was represented by a social worker from a terminal illness foundation which had agreed to pay the rent for 6 months and i was personally named on new lease as my sick brothers caregiver as well as a resident of the home. a couple of weeks afterwards, my brother kicked me and my 2 small grandchildren who were staying with me at the time out literally on the street. he had landowner change lease and refuses to allow me to come back on property to collect mine and my grandchildrens personal belongings.can he legally keep all of mine and grandchildrens personal property?
