Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kansas
Do I owe money after eviction from rented property?
I divorced my wife and was court-ordered to move out of our house that we were renting. She was then the sole resident of that household. She supposedly ''worked out'' a payment agreement with the landlord, and I was told to gather the rest of my belongings and leave my house key and garage door opener. Therefore I was formally evicted. The landlords now want money for the time between my ex-wife's departure and the time a new tenant moved in, and they're after ME. I was evicted. How did they know I didn't want to move back in after she left? I wasn't given a choice. I already have legal representation but I need to know if they even have a right to be after me for any money. I paid them fully for the time I actually lived there, plus I never received my deposit back. I need the harrassment to end! Please help.

You say she "worked out" a payment agreement with the landlord. Did you? Was your name on the lease?
You and your wife are probably liable on the lease unless you were released.
Feel free to call me Monday. How much is being claimed due? How much was the deposit? Did you get a breakdown of why the deposit was not refunded?
