Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Kansas
Property recovery?
We had an electrical fire (due to faulty wiring) in the house we were renting and lost everything we owned. We did not have renter's insurance. Can we try to recover damages by taking the landlord to court for not having the electric up to code?

Re: Property recovery?
Depending upon your lease agreement, you may be able to recover for your damages. These are tough cases, because, fire damage is rarely just because of faulty wiring. It is dificult to prove a landlor's liability if they relied upon the work of a licensed electrician to install or repair the wiring. You know now that you should have had renter's insurance. Now you shoudl consult with an attorney that could have access to more of the details than you have space to provide here.
Good Luck
