My niece was buying a vehicle from me, she pd a small down and was supposed to pay the remaining balance in a months time. She has the vehicle no paperwork was drawn up, and i have
the title unsigned. My tag and insurance is still on the vehicle. She has not paid us and is now not returning phone calls and hiding the vehicle. What can i do to get it back?

Obviously, you now know that you were a bit foolish in how you handled this matter, in that you have no documentation to show a disinterested third party to demonstrate what the agreement was. You have several options. Among them are: reposes the vehicle using the assistance of a police officer. sue your niece in either small claims or limited actions court, or hire an attorney to address the unpaid debt with her. It might be tough to get an officer to accompany you to the vehicle, so you might need to use a repo service.
I would not recommend that you cancel the insurance, while she still has the vehicle. But, you might be able to report the tags as stolen, so that you might not be liable, should she get into a wreck.
