Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Kansas

I had an oral agreement with my previous employer that they could store a sailboat and motorcycle on my property for free as long as I was employed with their firm. I have attempted on several occasions to get them to remove the property. I was terminated in October. My question is can I send them a final notice that if the property is not removed within a certain amount of time that the property will be sold or removed at their expense and if so how much time must I give them. Also can I charge them for the 6 months of storage since my termination?

Under the facts you described, you may give your former employer writen notice to remove the property within thrity days or that you will assuem it is abandoned and will sell or convert (consider it yours) the prorperty after that. You shoudl make sure it is sent to the proper represetnative fo the employer (if a corporation) and probably by certified mail. If they decide to remove the property now, you shoudl demand storage fees. They could be the reasonable or customary rate for your area. If they do not pick it up, and you want to keep it, you should apply through the Departmetn of Motor vehicles for an abaondoned vehicle title. It takes some time, but at the end the proeprty is yours.

Good luck
