Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Kansas
rent for managers
I am a apartment manager who was receiving free rent until about 20 minutes ago. I was never informed that I was to start paying rent. My apartment was part of my benifits package. I was going over my deliquent list and noticed that my name was on ther with 2 months of past due rent. I contacted my distric Manager and he informed that he didn't know why it was on there. I then called someone higher then him and was informed that the rent change took place two months ago and that the company should have informed me. I feel that I am not responsible to pay this amount of rent because no 30 day notice was given concerning any type of rental increase so that I could be prepared. I don't have a problem payign rent but I don't feel I should have to pay this. They are asking for Rent in the amount of $930. and Late fees in the amount of $50.00. This does not look good on my credit. what can I do?

Re: rent for managers
You did not say whterh you had a written employment contract. How long have you worked for the complex. Was there an employee newsletter, or bulletin board where things were usually communicated to employees. Are you still the manager or employee of the complex?
These and other questions would need to be answered before I could give you a reasoanble list of options. The ball is somewhat in the employer's court now. You can respond to any actions they take.
If you wish to discuss this matter further, you may contact me either by phone or email.
Good Luck,
