Legal Question in Traffic Law in Kansas
Double citation away from the scene
I was recently pulled over for the first time in my life for allegedly going 50 in a 30. A friend of mine was ahead of me and the officer told me he was going to pull over my friend for going 47 and then he clocked me. He asked me where we were going and I told him to a restaurant. He told us he would escort me to the place and then we would pull up to my friend and he would talk to both of us. We went and my friend wasn't there so the officer ordered me to call him. My friend then arrived and we flagged him down and the officer proceded to give us both 50 mph citations. My friend would have got off free if the officer had not used me. Is this legal? Also I am worried about my insurance, so I looked up the Kansas law for keeping tickets off your record and the limit is conveniently 19 or under. I then looked up fines according to Kansas law and discovered the officer ticketed me for a 48 mph fine but wrote 50 on the citation. I feel both my friend and I will be unrightfully kept from lower insurance rates. Also the officer wrote the date of the ticket as 2008 instead of 2009. Can any of this help me maintain a clean slate?

Re: Double citation away from the scene
If you have no previous tickets, it isa good chance that an attorney may be able to plea your case down to a non-moving violation. A non-moving conviction will not affect your driving license ans should not change your insurance premium. If you are near Kansas City, I may be able to assist you and your friend. If not, find a traffic attorney in your area.
